Bitdefender is a top Mac antivirus program. It has a high level of malware detection and a host of other useful security features. The program does not come without problems.

The default interface is easy-to-navigate and categorizes features into three categories: Privacy, Security, and Utilities. The Protection tab is mostly dedicated to the features you’d expect from an antivirus program, like real time scanning, firewall monitoring, and ransomware countermeasures. The Privacy tab offers methods to ensure your online security like a secure browser that runs sites within the sandbox in order to protect you from malware that is infecting your browser. The Utilities tab contains optimization tools as well as an application that shreds files using a unique algorithm to render them unrecoverable even if they’ve been deleted.

Premium plans also come with a password manager and a solution called « Anti-Tracker » that will stop web services from tracking you excessively. The program includes a vulnerability scanner that can identify outdated software and passwords that are not secure, or Windows updates that aren’t applied. It also offers a quick custom scan which only takes five minutes and is faster than other competitors such as Norton and TotalAV.

The only issue with the application get more is its slow installation, which can be frustrating for those who want to get started right away. The « Reveal in the Finder » feature of the app doesn’t work. This is a strange absence from an antivirus program that competes with other solutions that can do the same with just a few simple clicks.
