Mac Tools Calendar Review – Fantastical

A calendar made by Mac Tools helps you keep the track of important dates, such as birthdays, weddings and work commitments. Without one, it’s easy to double-book yourself or forget important appointments. There are a lot of well-designed applications that make it simple to stay organized. The best apps adhere to Apple’s design guidelines and have macOS notifications, Today Widgets, menu bar icons and multi-account sync. They also have color-coding capabilities and simple guidelines.

Fantastical is an intuitive menu bar calendar with a lot of features. It’s a bit less Apple-y than the other options on this list, however it does all of the things that people want from a calendar app. Its left panel for example doesn’t display a list of your calendars which is a waste of space as are the majority of apps. Instead, it provides space to display an agenda view, and for reminders. The UI also pays attention to the smallest of details: If an event appears in two calendars, Fantastical displays it with pin-striped patterns that let you know which one it’s in.

The free version of Fantastical provides more than enough for most people, but the $6.99/month Flexibits Premium subscription offers a Calendly-style scheduling feature (which I depend on to manage interviews across time zones), lots of customization options and unlimited Calendar Sets that change depending on your current Focus mode or other factors. It also integrates with Trello and Todoist which allows you to add tasks from these platforms into your calendar.
